Recently, I came across these insightful thoughts about arguments.
·
Most arguments are ego competitions disguised as
truth-seeking.
·
Learning to say, “You’re probably right” will
save you a lot of time and energy.

Think about it…
Maybe it’s my age…or
maybe it’s just the world we live in. Either way, I’ve noticed it’s harder to
stay focused for any length of time. Distractions are everywhere.
It’s amazing how quickly we learn about breaking news and world events through social media, smartphones, and the internet. And then there’s the rest, all the useless information that fills our feeds and steals our attention. Interruptions are always just a tap away. But focus matters. It’s the difference between staying busy and being productive. Between motion and progress. The way we receive and share information may have changed, but one thing hasn’t, results still matter. If we’re not producing results, whether at work or at home, we’re not truly succeeding.
Guard your focus like it’s your most valuable resource because it is. Tune out the noise and give your best attention to what truly moves you forward.
“The ability to concentrate and to use your time well is everything if you want to succeed in business; or almost anywhere else for that matter.”
- Lee Iacocca
There’s an old saying:
“You have to fight fire with fire.” I am not sure that is always true, nor
wise, especially when the fire is an argument or disagreement.
If you take the analogy
literally, fire is put out with
water, not more fire. The same applies to conflict. Meeting anger with anger
only escalates the flames, draining energy and fueling bigger, hotter, more
volatile problems. On the other hand, a calm response, like water can shrink
the blaze, cool the heat, and make the situation more manageable. Sometimes it
even puts the fire out entirely.
The next time you face a
heated situation, resist the urge to add fire. Consider using a dose of cool,
calming water the next time you have a fire to fight. You might be surprised
how quickly the flames die down.
Just a few of
my favorite simple reminders…
·
Nobody
can prove you are stupid until you open your mouth
·
Avoiding
stupidity is easier than seeking brilliance
·
Never
overlook an opportunity to keep your mouth shut
·
God
gave us two ears and one mouth, they should be used in that ratio
I feel like our
world could benefit from being reminded of these…
