More on this topic from last
week which highlighted the following Martin Luther King Jr., quote.
“We must develop and maintain
the capacity to forgive. He who is devoid of the power to forgive is devoid of
the power to love. There is some good in the worst of us and some evil in the
best of us. When we discover this, we are less prone to hate our enemies.”
Never mind your enemies, what
about your spouse, your kids, your employees? We humans are flawed
individuals. We need forgiveness. If you expect to love only those
who are perfect or worthy you will be sorely disappointed. Not one of us
is perfect. That adjective can only be used in reference to Jesus
Christ. Hence the concept of forgiveness. Much like Jesus bestows
grace upon us we must forgive in order to love. Dr. King states it clearly,
if one cannot forgive, one cannot love. Relationships require
forgiveness. We are broken. We need people to love us in our
brokenness.
Love requires
forgiveness. Forgiveness enables love.
