Love & Forgiveness

As we celebrate Martin Luther King, Jr. Day today, give some thought to Dr. King’s quote:

“We must develop and maintain the capacity to forgive. He who is devoid of the power to forgive is devoid of the power to love. There is some good in the worst of us and some evil in the best of us. When we discover this, we are less prone to hate our enemies.”

Consider the relationship between love and forgiveness.

Forgiveness

A friend recently shared this quote…

“I forgive people, but that does not mean I accept their behavior or trust them.  I forgive them for me, so I can let go and move on with my life.”

-       Unknown

It is important to forgive, but I think many of us are confused about what that means.  To forgive does not mean to forget.  It does not mean things will be like before.  Forgiving does not mean relationships return to the way they were.  It could mean these things, but not necessarily.  To forgive means to let go and move on.  The act of forgiving is more for us than our transgressors.  Give yourself the freedom to forgive.
